ABOUT US

A PASSION TO SHARE—AND THERE’S SO MUCH TO SHARE

Chamber Muse Historical Music Society of Calgary is a charitable non-profit organization in Calgary, Alberta, founded in 2020 by baroque violinist Sarah Bleile Douglass and harpsichordist Justin Luchinski. The society was created to advance awareness, research, education, and performance opportunities for historical chamber music repertoire in Calgary, with historical performance practices and period instruments.

The baroque era, roughly 1600-1750, is filled not only with a vast wealth of incredibly rich and complex music but with treatises that describe a unique approach to creating music—an approach that involved much more creative input on the part of the performer than we typically expect when thinking about “classical” music—that became lost over the centuries. Chamber Muse aims to maximize exposure of these performance practices, wonderful repertoire, and beautiful instruments to the public of Calgary.

Since 2021, Chamber Muse has been a partner with the Calgary Public Library to present free educational and interactive concerts that showcase various instruments, periods, and styles.
